EJ arrives at Paulina’s with a signed statement from Stefan, who has recanted his statement about EJ’s involvement in the baby switch, so she has no reason to fire him. Paulina says Melinda Trask doesn’t want to come back, and she has no one to replace him with… yet. EJ says he will continue working as DA and won’t take up any more of her time.
Paulina tells EJ they both know this statement is a lie, so how did he get his brother to sign it? EJ says this is the truth, and Stefan was trying to bring him down, so he threatened to sue him for defamation and destroy him. She wonders what they’ll do when they run out of things to blackmail one another with. EJ laughs that won’t happen and departs.

Stefan visits Gabi in the hospital with flowers. He admits the nurse asked him to bring them in, and they are from her assistants at Gabi Chic. She asks why he’s here. He wanted to let her know that he spoke to his lawyer and he’s filing for divorce. Gabi is surprised, but Stefan admits he thought she would have filed first. Gabi says he once vowed to fight for their marriage, so why the sudden rush to divorce her? He explains he’s not in a rush, but they’re both miserable, so why drag this out? She still feels it is sudden, so why now, and why today? He tells her about his argument with EJ earlier, and EJ told him that he’d never be able to erase the image of them together from his head. Gabi can relate, and all she can see is him and Ava together.
Stefan says there is no fixing this, so there is nothing left to fight for. Gabi recalls when the timer of the bomb was ticking down, and she thought she was going to die, all she wanted was to tell him one more time that she loved him. When he came to see her that night in the hospital, she wanted to forgive him, but then he admitted to wanting revenge sex with Ava again. Stefan says it didn’t happen, but she tried to sleep with EJ for a second time, and he turned her down. She admits that is true. She was hurt and wanted to hurt him, and it was the same with him. She says inflicting pain on someone you are supposed to love with your whole heart isn’t something you should do. She remembered when he died and came back that it was a miracle, but he wanted nothing to do with her at first. Stefan takes her hand and says they finally found their way back to one another, and they were so happy. She says that’s when she went to prison, and knowing he was waiting for her was the only thing keeping her going. Then she found out about him and Ava, and she couldn’t handle it. Stefan tells her how sorry he is and that he would give everything to go back and erase that mistake.
Stefan admits that when they were good and happy, he never loved anyone like he loved her. He smiles, saying she was everything to him, and recites what he wrote to her on their anniversary. She calls him a poet, but he says he’s a fool who screwed everything up. She says he did, and then she screwed it up even worse. They are both sorry, but Gabi says the damage is done and there is nothing left anymore. She tells him to file for divorce, as she wants it over with the same as he does. They say goodbye, and Stefan walks out. Gabi breaks down into tears.

In Salem Place, Julie is out with the kids and asks Thomas why he seems to be in such a rush. Thomas says he and his friend are having an online game battle later today, but Julie says he’ll have to postpone that as their daddy has a special surprise for them.
Thomas asks what the surprise is. Suddenly, Leo appears and says he loves surprises. Thomas asks Leo if he’s still the tooth fairy and if he could get an advancement on his loose tooth. Leo says he’s not the tooth fairy anymore, but he heard the good news about his mom. Thomas replies, “Mom’s dead, what’s so good about that?” Julie gives Leo a look. Julie says, “What are you talking about, Leo? There is no news about Abigail.” Leo says there is, and their mom got her chief angel wings, and Fairyland is talking about it. He also admits he is the tooth fairy and gives Thomas and Charlotte both loose tooth advances, handing them money. Julie tells the children it’s time to go and rushes them off.
At the Horton house, Chad thanks “Abigail” for coming. He says when Julie returns with the kids, he wants them to tell them the truth. “Abigail” insists they absolutely cannot do that. She states they both agreed it was too soon, but Chad feels the kids need her and have gone long enough without her. He fears the longer they wait, the more they’ll likely find out from someone else.
More: Who isn’t returning to Days
“Abigail” doesn’t want them to find out from a stranger either, but she’s just starting to remember, so what is the harm of waiting? Chad argues that their kids are smart, they’ll begin to suspect something is up, and they need their mother back. Chad asks if she is tired of being a virtual prisoner in his father’s mausoleum. Doesn’t she want her life back? He says perhaps seeing their children will help bring her memories back. “Abigail” explains she feels terrible enough disappointing him and not remembering, so she can’t stand disappointing them. He says he understands when Julie arrives with the kids. Thomas looks at “Abigail “ and asks who she is.
“Abigail” is left speechless. Thomas asks why “Abigail” is staring at him, and why his dad isn’t saying anything. Julie tells Thomas that his father is just collecting his thoughts. “Abigail” says she’s heard a lot about them, and she’s a friend of his dad’s and works with him at the newspaper. Chad asks Julie if she can take the kids while they finish their work. Thomas heard there was a surprise for them, but Chad says that will come later.
Once Julia and the kids leave, Chad asks if that triggered anything. “Abigail” says it didn’t. He doesn’t know where they go from here, but she has an idea. She tells him her idea off-camera and asks what he thinks.
Suddenly, Julie returns and asks what is going on, as she thinks they were telling the children the truth. Chad explains “Abigail” wasn’t ready. Julia is glad to finally meet her cousin. She explains they can’t continue this charade indefinitely and tells them about Leo’s blunder. Chad says “Abigail” had an idea to help them avoid that from happening again. “Abigail” reveals she wants them to go to Paris. They explain perhaps going back there could help “Abigail” remember. Julie asks if they are taking the children, but “Abigail” says they would leave them with her parents in Boston, that way nobody will slip up and tell them anything. She also says if she doesn’t remember anything, then they will tell the children the truth. Chad is on board with the plan and says, “Paris, here we come!”
More: Why Abigail may never return
Ava stops by the pub, and Roman tells her he’s having the locks changed after the Connie incident and will get her some new keys. Ava says she knows she’s behind on her rent and isn’t sure when she can pay him back. He assumed she left the pub because she got a better job, but Ava says things have changed. Ava explains she quit before she even started the new job, which was a little more complicated than she thought. She hasn’t had time to talk to Stefan about it since he saved her from Connie. Roman tells Ava if she wants her old job back, she can have it, but maybe she should figure out where she stands with Stefan. She thanks him and heads out.
Leo arrives and tells Roman he needs a drink, and while soap opera life is crazy, that real life is crazier. He just found out the hard way that Chad’s kids don’t know their mom is still alive. He fills Roman in on what happened. Later, Roman asks how the soap is going. Leo tells him that he had to write Hattie out thanks to her making demands. He hated having to kill her character off, especially since he knew she was leaving before she did.
Ava stops by the Bistro to see Stefan about his job offer. He asks if she is going to un-quit. She says it depends on whether he and Gabi are back together. He confirms they aren’t, and they are getting a divorce. Ava is no fan of Gabi’s, but she cares about him and hopes he’s not jumping the gun with this. Stefan says part of him will always love Gabi, but neither can get over the other’s mistakes. He hopes she’ll consider returning to work without having concerns about Gabi or his behavior. She appreciates that, as she needs the job, but she’d gladly return to the Brady Pub if it would help him and Gabi. He thanks her.
EJ stops by the hospital to see Gabi. He says Rafe warned him to stay away from her, so he asks how she’d like to handle living together. Gabi says it’s a big house, and they’ll figure things out. EJ assumes the flowers are from Stefan, but she says they aren’t. She informs him that Stefan was just here and is filing for divorce because of him. She tells EJ that he taunted Stefan that he’d never get the image of them together out of his head. EJ admits he did say that, because his brother obsesses over things. She recalls what Johnny said, and that he took his anger over losing Nicole out on her and Stefan. He wanted to ruin their marriage, and he succeeded.
EJ is sorry if she blames him for the end of her marriage, but when they shared their night of passion, he assumed her marriage was already over. She says he’s right, and lashing out at him was easier than blaming herself. She was the one who came onto him, and he was a perfect gentleman in turning her down when she wanted to have sex again. He jokes that he has his moments. He also says he’s never seen her back down from a fight, so if she doesn’t want her marriage to be over… Gabi says this isn’t a fight, and what she and Stefan had is truly dead this time.
