We’ve been going through a roller coaster of emotions ever since Days of Our Lives‘ Clyde first dangled the possibility of Abigail being alive before our (and Chad’s) eyes. There was the search, the discovery of “Abigail,” the hope that she’s real and the realization that she wasn’t. But still, we couldn’t help but hold out hope that this was all just distraction while the real Abigail really was still out there somewhere. But then we got to today.
As Mark was giving his sis a pep talk to keep up the deception, he said he knew it was tough, especially after all Chad had been through with Abigail’s death, ” and now to make him think that she’s back, when she’s not, when she never will be back…” Ouch.
It could just be a throwaway line. It could be meant to throw us off the scent. But realistically… how would she have come back? If Rolf couldn’t save her, then who would have? Yes, this is Days of Our Lives and we never know what the future holds, but what if this one time, the show doesn’t break out the magic prisms or Get Out of Heaven free cards and just lets Abigail stay dead?
Plus if Clyde had really brought her back, he could have actually used her as leverage to get Chad to do what he wanted, rather than send in a fake to win him over and take his money. He wouldn’t have sent Chad to her, but could have held the real Abigail hostage instead of the Greenes’ mother. That’s a whole lot less work than this smoke and mirrors game he’s playing with Chad and the Greenes.
We know the hope has been that after frustrating us with a fake return, at the end of the story, the real Abigail will appear and all will be well once again. But we may have to just accept the fact that she’s gone, and this time, she’s not coming back. Now we just need Days of Our Lives to stop teasing us with faux returns!
